Neat cooler in that it provides extra USB ports in the back. Couple bad design flaws. First, it is a bit noisy. Worried that the fan might fail. We’ve had it a few weeks and when we shut off the laptop at night, and then power it up, the fan makes quite a racket. Once it is on for awhile, the noise gets quieter. Sounded like a bearing, which is why I think it could be on it’s way to failure… Hope it has a warranty.
It comes with a DC power supply (powered USB hub – and powered fan) – or you can run with only USB power (unpowered ports). But, plug in the dc power supply and if you shut off the computer, the fan still runs. If you run the fan on USB power (without dc adapter) the fan shuts off when the computer does.
We’ve are now just leaving the laptop on, so we dont have the startup noise (and we dont have the issue with having to unplug the dc power supply).
If the fan doesn’t fail, I will be happy with the purchase.

I bought this product for just one purpose, to help cool my HP Pavilion notebook and keep it from shutting down.
I gave this product 5 stars because so far, it performs as expected. No more unexpected shutdowns.

Everyone who owns a Macbook Pro will tell you that it gets so hot you can fry an egg on it. After 2 laptops and years of agony I finally look into the possibility of a cooling pad. I looked at some with fans and some without. Almost bought one in Apple Store without a fan for $60 bucks (for the nice design).
This pad was an impulse buy from Costco for $20. It is really really worth the money. I have no experience with other pads so can’t help you compare. But this really cools off my MBP. My MBP remains cool even when watching videos. The design is nice and matches my laptop. You can hear a small fan sound but is unnoticeable if you have music or TV sound around you. Another thing I really like is it elevates the laptop. Having the screen at eye level really helps me read sites for some strange reason. I would recommend it for anyone.
One thing I wish it does is a way for me to adjust height.

The pros:
1) lightweight
2) relatively portable
3) fan cools well.
The Cons:
1) legs are not sturdy; the legs fold in if not held ‘just so’ on your lap.
2) legs are painful if used on your bare lap (leaves deep marks); wear pants when using.
3) cord is too short for larger laptops. Should be wireless USB or longer cord.
4) legs break (stress fracture)in the center of the legs, not at the ‘joint’ where they attach to the base unit.
5) unit is too small for larger laptops.
6) the cord stores inside the base, using the legs as a door for the compartment. This was poor design ultimately, because if the legs fall in as you’re using it, the cord could eventually be severed.
I have used this daily for a few hours each day. I’ve had the unit only about 4 months, and the legs have died. The only saving grace is that I can turn it sideways and use it (which is actually more comfortable on my legs than with the stumps that were on it to begin with), but that is because I have a 12″ laptop. If I had a 15 or larger this would not be possible. I would have expected it to last much longer than 4 months. I will be purchasing one without legs like my husband has, and not a Belkin.

I got this product awhile ago, and I used it every day with my laptop (which tended to overheat to the point of powering off unexpectedly). The cooling pad worked wonders…while it still worked. After about two months with the pad, the adapter plug on the back of the pad broke and sunk into the pad itself so that the adapter can’t be plugged in, making it pretty much useless.
